What is teeth whitening?

Teeth whitening can be a very effective way of lightening the natural colour of your teeth without removing any of the tooth’s surface. It cannot make a complete colour change, but it can help remove stains and  lighten and brighten your existing shade.

Why would I get my teeth whitened?

Our teeth can become discoloured or stained on the surface by food and drinks such as coffee and tea, red wine or anything you regularly ingest that is highly pigmented. Smoking and vaping can also stain the enamel of your teeth causing discolouration over time.

Some people may have staining under the surface, which can be caused by certain antibiotics or by tiny cracks in the teeth which take up stains.

What does tooth whitening involve?

Professional bleaching is a safe and gentle method that involves applying the whitening product to your teeth taking care to avoid the gums. The ‘active ingredient' in the product  ( hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide), is broken down oxygenating the enamel allowing the stains to lift and a brighter smile is achieved.
